02 / Thinking together

Family therapy

At MPS, we provide family therapy to explore what happens between family members, and how each person experiences it. We offer family therapy both in person at our Ellicott City office and online.

Understanding relationships

Family members may care deeply about one another while experiencing the same situation very differently. Family therapy creates room to hear those differences and explore how people respond to each other.

The conversation can include recurring conflicts, changes in the family, and moments when communication breaks down.

Looking at patterns

A disagreement may become familiar: one person presses for a response, another withdraws, and everyone feels misunderstood. Thinking together about these patterns can help a family notice what each person is trying to express or protect.

The aim is to develop understanding of the relationship and make space for different needs, feelings, and perspectives.

Parents and children

When a child is struggling, parents often have questions about how to respond. Family conversations can explore the child’s experience alongside the pressures, concerns, and hopes of the adults caring for them.

Each person’s perspective matters. There can be room for connection and for differences within the same family.
