03 / Clarifying the questions

Psychological testing

At MPS, we provide psychological testing for autism spectrum disorder (ASD), attention-deficit/hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), and social/emotional concerns. Testing is provided in person at our office: 3355 St. John’s Lane, Suite F, Ellicott City, MD 21042.

What testing can help clarify

An evaluation starts with a question about how someone is learning, relating, managing attention, or experiencing emotions. Testing brings together information to better understand strengths and areas of difficulty.

The focus is on understanding the person in context and considering what support may be useful.

ASD testing

Autism spectrum disorder evaluations explore questions about social communication, relationships, interests, routines, and sensory experiences. Developmental history and experiences across settings help give these questions context.

ADHD testing

ADHD evaluations explore attention, activity level, impulse control, and the management of everyday tasks. The evaluation considers how concerns appear across settings and what else may contribute to the difficulties.

Social/emotional concerns

Testing can explore questions about emotional functioning, behavior, relationships, and how a person experiences themselves and others. Concerns may include anxiety, mood, difficulty with peers, or behavior that is hard to understand.

The evaluation process

The process may include conversations about the concerns and developmental history, questionnaires, and individual testing. The methods depend on the questions being asked.

Feedback brings the findings together, with an explanation of what they mean and recommendations for next steps.
